I don't think the rumor of him being fired form a school has any relevance.  You cannot witch hunt people like this really.  I am sure there are some other States Members that have left firms under clouds at sometime in their lives.

Going back to Mr Southern.  I was told that his little election poster has been stuck on every street light pole in St Helier.

Can anybody confirm?

Is this like last time - stand as a JDA party official for senator and then drop the party and stand for deputy if he looses.  Anybody who is prepared to drop such strongly held principles to further their political asperations is not getting my vote.

No - this is the pattern that the JDA will be forced to adhere to at every election that they decide to contest as I believe they find it hard to motivate the 'working class' into voting. This may be because in Jersey they have more empathy with the right then the left or it could just be that the JDA are not very appealing in general. Either way this is the pattern.

It’s not PC you're right. I'm not PC. PC's gone mad if you ask me.

My parents are in their 70's and read the Daily Mail. They consider themselves to be working class and conservative in way that is perhaps best characterised by Warren Mitchell and Dandy Nichols. They have never been high earners and came from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and had very little proper education. They had to get out of school at 14 to work and they've not been able to stop since.

They do like the fact that Geoff Southern has a pop at Ozouf et al every now and again (there has always been a strong desire to ridicule pomposity amongst people of their generation) but they would not vote for the JDA as their ideological backgrounds are very different to their own. Weird isn’t it.

Owt as strange as folk- I reckon Alf would have made a top PM. My Dad was very wealthy but loved the series too. He sold up during Harold Wilson's time. 20 years Later there was a program interviewing ex Labour MP's, " we took things just as far as we dared just to see what happened" Christ! what a way to run a country.
