I heard that these meetings are just made up of a load of rantings with no solutions.  The JDA tried the same 4 years ago when they had their mass meeting up the Fort.  It did not get anywhere, in fact when it came to votes it was a disaster.

Freedom of speech is fine and we can all sit in a bar and complain about how crap the place is.  But the only people that will get votes are the ones with ideas. and so I have been told, this is the weakness of the T4C or JDA (re-invented) at the moment.

But yes, you do seem to sound like one of them!

I don't have any objections to some left wing ideas in Jersey Politics.  Maybe it is what is needed.  A bit more of a balance so to speak.

But we must remember that Jersey is not the same as an industrial coal workers town in the middle of northern England.  It is a Finance Center and a very successful one.  All that has happened is that people that have money have left the people without money behind.

I have suggested a load of ideas on the alternates to GST thread that would attack the wealthy more and I believe that Jersey will have to attack the wealthy sometime in the future anyhow.

As for saying "I can guess who you are", I am intrigued?

If you have such a problem with finance and walker, why don't you stand or something.

You need to learn about finance in 2008 and not 1988 as your comments hint, have a rest and come back with something new and not so boring and outdated....

Jersey has set itself up for a big fall, it has become dependent on finance just like a drug addict becomes dependent on drugs.
However reality will have to be faced at some stage. The longer it is put off the worse it will be in the end.
Jersey's financial system is unfair and does affect people elsewhere due to tax revenues being lost in those countries.
It does not benefit anyone except the rich who milk the system for their own ends.
You are adding and abetting them by doing this.

I ASKED YOU LAST NIGHT TO STOP ATTACKING OTHER PEOPLE PROFESSIONS ON HERE AND ALSO ARGUING WITH PEOPLE.  TAKE THIS AS A WARNING.

I fail to see where Jersey Boy has attacked anyone.

Meanwhile, we have Deputy Dawg who is clearly making a personal attack on Jersey Boy - "YOU ARE REALLY REALLY SAD.", etc. and you say nothing.

Why is that?

Some here are pro-finance, others are not.  What is the problem with people having opposing views?

WHY are the Council of Ministers afraid to allow an Island vote on the soon to be vacant post of Chief Minister?

Most European countries have held a referendum in recent years. Boris Johnson was elected to the Mayorship of London by the people of London. If he does not shape up he will be removed by the same people.

Gordon Brown will be removed shortly, partially because he reneged on a promised referendum, and also because he has been robbing the pension funds since 1997. All done democratically.

Had the people of Jersey been allowed a say, the present Chief Minister would not have come close. In the last election he faced, he struggled into last place in the poll.

The present system of allowing the ministers to choose their own leader is undemocratic. Any person in high office must be put there by the wishes of the majority of the people. Any other method is cheating. No one should be elected by a handful of yes men, bag men, self-seekers or brown noses.

Senator Terry Le Sueur says that he does not want to be elected by popularity alone. As if. This is the man who put duty on all fuel except marine fuel, ‘in order to encourage the industry’. I have missed something there.

The same man said: ‘Even if 100,000 people vote against GST it will still go through.’ The arrogance is breathtaking.

Criticism is unfair unless alternatives are presented. Personally, I would like to see Deputy Roy Le Hérissier toss his hat into the ring and Simon Crowcroft has more than proved his worth.

All this, however, may be academic, as I believe the real ‘shafting’ will come from Brussels. The EU have got greedy, corrupt regimes like Jersey firmly in their sights.

Jersey Chief Minister Frank Walker is facing censure for not providing the States with accurate information about plans for a new financial quarter.

The application for censure is being brought by Deputy Geoff Southern.

He believes States members were "seriously misled" during the debate on the development of the new Esplanade quarter in St Helier.

If Deputy Southern's application goes ahead, Senator Walker will face a censure vote in the House.

Esplanade quarter

In 2004, before becoming chief minister, Senator Walker narrowly defeated another vote of censure.

He had been accused of pressuring planning authorities to approve an infill site on a friend's land in Trinity.

Deputy Southern brought the latest application for censure because, he said, members were not given full and accurate information about the Esplanade quarter masterplan and in particular its economic impact.

He claims two "vital" documents were withheld from States members.

The esplanade development includes plans to submerge a dual-carriageway and build several thousand feet of office space and living accommodation.

It will link St Helier's waterside area with the rest of the town.

Senator Walker has already apologised to the House for giving it information regarding the project that he believed to be true, but which he subsequently discovered was not.

I keep on saying, he retires in the next few months, is this really necessary?  I would be very surprised if Geoff Southern gets this passed.  It is like a lot of the items he puts forward they never seem to get any support.  I don't support Walker either, but he did inform the States that he had been given miss information as straight after the vote.  Somehow I think he has covered himself anyway

Senator Walker when past chairman of the Guiton Group, in one of his annual statements of the years business, is on record as stating that profits in difficult trading conditions have been buoyant, due to a streamlining of management. It does show however that Frank Walker, had his hands firmly on the reins of the company and let go managerial staff to keep the company profits high, in problem times. An astute businessman, certainly no idiot.

For clarity all quotes are in green.

Most of Jerseys' public including myself, thought that web who are operating as a quango, is pretty much self ruling but this is actually not the case. After researching Government documents it is a fact that Senator Frank Walker has immense authority, underlined by the Auditor Generals interim report on WEB dated 30th June 2008.

Page 15.

Following the introduction of ministerial government, the chief minister, as successor to the policy & Resources committee has the power to give directions to WEB.

Moreover, certain powers of the board (e.g. those to borrow and to mortgage the companies property) may only be exercised with the prior written consent of the Chief Minister (as successor to the policy and resources board.

www.auditorgeneral-jersey.org/pdf/WEB%20Interim%20report%20-%2030%20June%202008.pdf

Managing director Stephen Izatt in the JEP. Monday 23rd June is quoted, and says,

Mr Izatts said that it was Harcourt's responsibility to inform WEB of any court action that they felt would have an impact on the project in Jersey. The onus is on Harcourt to inform us, he said.

Further Frank Walker acknowledges mistakes in the JEP 3rd July.

Senator Walker said that the chief executive of WEB apologised to him……………..He did get it wrong on how he advised me, but he has put up his hands and apologised.

In private enterprise had a boss not done is homework and lost the company money or embarrassed the company or misinformed the chairman, then heads would roll. However whatever WEB may think of itself, it is still dealing in assets owned by the islanders and should be accountable and is............  to the CM and through him the states. The latest project is to bring about one of the largest and most expensive projects in the history of Jersey.

This WEB farce in the real business world, would be seen as sheer incompetence, well past being naïve or even mistaken, because of poor due diligence, and the multi millions involved. Its a fact that the developer, did have law suits pending during the time WEB were supposed to be carrying out important checks. You have heard many of the details so I shall not rake over again, but it was Web's job to protect the public's assets and interests, and their head honcho Stephen Izatt, M/D to oversee the work.

CM Frank Walker with his proven acute business acumen has robustly defended The WEB directors,

So Frank Walkers old Guiton Groups management are sacked for no other reason than to keep profits high. However Web's disgraceful handling of the publics land / money  farce and the team headed by Mr Stephen Izatts messed up the due diligence, process that we are told misled and embarrassed the Chief Minister who had never been so angry in his political career. Incompetence let of the hook, is this the norm for highly paid, high ranking civil servants Senator Walker, can this really be correct? is this really the best you can do to protect the publics assests ?

Scrutiny in a damming report, scuppers the formation of the Jersey Enterprise Board who's aim was to control billions of pounds worth of Jersey land, and property. The question must be asked is the retiring Senator Frank Walker still hungry for land control when he no longer has a say in the States, by possible becoming Chairman of WEB with Little Terry good friend and long term ally as Chief Minister with his all important signature at the ready ?
