A really good intro!
« on: September 16, 2008, 04:40:34 PM »
If you predicted this in 2002 than how can they argue?

I want to ask a question though.  How is it possible to get affordable housing?

Hi,

I think Terry did a great speech. Easily heard, good gaps and he was able to highlight some of my 2002 policies and show that they were taken on (ok with the exception of the no GST bit)

I do actually have an idea about affordable housing in Jersey. It's not going to be 100% because I have pretty much kept it to myself and only a couple of others at the moment, but I will discuss it in the hustings, either in my speech or in questions. I think its a good idea, and with over 1,000 families on some of the housing trusts list (those that can't even get onto the states housing list) accommodation is an item that needs to be looked at seriously, not only cheaper properties to buy but also reducing the rents of those properties out on the market at the moment.

I will post the day of the first hustings and let you all pull it apart so that I can be sure it will work.

"Affordable housing" is a phrase we hear a lot, even Boris Johnson comes out with it.

It raises the question, affordable to whom?

Will be interesting to hear your plan, and some specifics on this one.

I have mentioned it in my manifesto which I will post on here tomorrow night.

Sometimes we need to look at a different approach, not only to housing but all sectors and problems. Thinking outside the box gets ideas started, and even though I expect to get lots of negative feedback about the proposition, I have gone through it quite a bit and I can't see any real major problem. I hope it gets thoroughly discussed as I would like to think that with the contributions of posters on here it can go from a good idea to a great idea (tweeks and changes) which could eventually be taken on by all states members.
