The only reason he is a back seater in the States is because he is not one of the establishment he stands for the people of the Island without making fancy promises and believe it or not he is one of the very few that actually listens!!!!!

One has to ask, why is he going for a position of Senator if he is such a good deputy? Also how many years has he been in the states and what has he achieved?
While it is all well and good stating that he votes against the establishment, I believe all but 2 of the new candidates will vote against the establishment and so I can't see using this reason to keep him in. Why not get some new blood in, mayben they CAN do something where his years of trying have failed?

Or maybe get out the people who have stopped people like Deputy Breckon doing anything, i am not sure if you noticed how Jersey politics works but unless your rich or a mason, you will not do anything in a position of power that betrays you from the flock for example see Stuart Syvret as a prime example.
I already have my mind made up on my candidates, i have looked at the them and heard what they have to say Deputy Breckon is the top of my list.

Also i have to ask what has any of the states members achieved that makes them so impervius?
Looking at the political affairs of the island we have a finance centre that cannot manage its own finance and will think nothing of taxing the population to fuel its greed whilst spending said taxes on on reports and architects on how to make the island better.

Oh and why shouldn't he run for senator? he has been a deputy for 15 years its about time he was pushed upwards?  ???

He listens, comprehends, and responds in a fair-minded way. He should be given a go at being a Minister.

???  People who have followed politics for years. Know Alan Breckon to be the most trusted member of the States.A Hard act to follow for any "new blood"  or anyone else who thinks to better him, Indeed in gaining that respect that he has earned Alan's grit, down to earth attidude in seeing things through has benefited the ordinary people, in spite of coming up more times against Establishment. Instead of knocking him. Anyone presently standing could learn in taking a leaf out of Alans book, when by voting on behalf of people, lives, and benefits. Adding the votes of newely elected members  would greatly help members like Alan,as a lot less votes would get passed toward the waste that slides towards the Chief Ministers How else do we bring about the serious changes people so badly are asking for. Opinions please.

Joe I could not have put it better myself.  If anyone has Alan's leaflet which he is currently working hard to post through all letter boxes please read it.  He means what he says, he doesn't make fancy promises, he works hard on behalf of the people and he wants change in the States to benefit the Island not Destroy it!

Yes, I have often wondered ... In a true democracy, you inevitably see a good balance of the leading "party" (for lack of a better word) winning and losing propositions; and the opposition winning and losing propositions. That's how it works: wins some, lose some.

Here in Jersey, though, non-establishment propositions hardly ever seem to make it ! Makes me think, really ! Too much of a coincidence to me! If you've ever been in the gallery in the States Assembly, did you notice how especially the Constables already aim for the "No" button as soon as people like Geoff Southern only get up to speak!

Most candidates are 'genuine' - the question is if they are genuinely good for jersey and its people...
