Certainly the only stupid question is the one which you don't ask.

If they teach you ideas like that, Columbia seems a great place to study. But isn't there a lot of CIA,  coke, contras etc.? Weren't you frightened of getting kidnapped?

Do you think theses are stupid questions?

Well in Columbia they aren't.

Our existing knowledge is such that, if elected, we would be more than a match for the civil service

Paleface? Don't have any more Grappa and real ale.

And don't flaunt it. Your intellect is more then enough to take on civil service but also be warned, they run an very tight ship.

Forgive me but I meant Columbia not Colombia!  Nearly as bad - to the west:Needle Park, to the East: Harlem and South and North more unsalubrious places!  Mind you the muggers don't bother with students - I had a friend escorted home by a couple of muggers!  The only person who was robbed was a Frenchman - they used to raid his flat but the only thing they took was his underwear.

This is why the greens are so knowledgeable, they have a "think tank" that provides them with information and it's excellent.

I pinch most of my material from St_ouennais  ::)

A reference to an old 60's TV show - Lone Ranger and Tonto surrounded by Indians - Lone Ranger says " looks like we're in big trouble, Tonto" to which Tonto replies "what do you mean "we", paleface?

Nick Palmer, what do you mean you don't have a think tank - you Daniel and Mark are always discussing "deep green" information between you, which is great to see but extremely profound to the rest of us - where does all this information come from? You're obviously all ferreting out and researching information and then discussing it and passing it on between you. Don't you call that a think tank - I certainly do.  It's probably so natural to you now that you have no idea what a vast resource of knowledge you have between you. We amateurs in the "green" field have a lot of catching up to do.

Ermm - not sure when this knowledge exchange happens. We really don't talk that much. Almost all of my stuff comes from memory - I started "Saving the Whale" and boycotting Barclays (cos of South Africa and apartheid) in 1970 and ended up running Jersey Friends of the Earth for about 8 years in the 90's. I fought and defeated the States (AKA Public Services Department) when I lived next to Bellozanne incinerator. It all sticks and builds up and cross-references in your mind. I just finished being assistant researcher on a new book about global warming (Penguin to publish next July). I belong to an alternative energy forum or two but mostly the ideas are my own - I'm a "song writer" - not a singer.

Nick's point is that he has three decades of experience. He doesn't need a think tank to research stuff - it's mostly all in his head already.

I hope everyone at last night's hustings noticed Ian Le Marquand's U turn re GST. At St John he categorically stated in answer to a direct question that he would not vote to remove GST and last night he stated exactly the opposite. Is such a man trustworthy? After the hustings he is chatting to the Establishment and last night Alan MacLean referred to him as "my learned colleague" (a colleague is someone you work with),,,,,,,,

He also told me (once I had pinned him down because he is as elusive as current States members) that he would vote for Terry Le Sueur as CM. In answer to a direct question from the floor at a following husting he answered "I will vote for the right person for the job" - if that isn't a direct cop out?.......

They already have him elected as Home Affairs Minister and he is going to be a Terry Le Sueur / Philip Ozouf puppet. I believe he will do anything he has to to get this job. When you speak to him he changes his replies in accordance with your reaction to what he is saying.

At the St Peter Hustings he told the crowd that he was in favour of raising speeding fines up to £500 and when someone protested and took him up on this he said he had been misunderstood .... I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions.

If you want reform do not vote for this man - he is dangerous.

It was'nt difficult to miss. What's with that guy. He seemed nervous last night. I thought he would have come across better. I was near the back of the hall and you really could'nt hear what he was yapping on about.
