Simple Fact.

JEC encourages everyone to use less leccy by insulating homes, buying light bulbs that have to be switched on when you are leaving for work in the morning in order to be glowing bright enough to see your dining table by tea-time.

Everyone uses less leccy, "Hurrah". (Planet saved?)

JEC needs to maintain profits, raises prices to maintain profit margin. More dosh for less leccy produced, "Simples".

If you have any spare dosh after paying your leccy bills, buy some shares in the JEC.

Its almost funny that the B&Q, selling all the insulation, greeny light bulbs etc is sited on JEC property.

Sorry, what's this peer review business all about?  And why do Wimbers (does that man ever do some constituency work?  Or is he just going to carry on wasting taxpayers money on his futile and windy rants - this weeks "debates" were excruciating to behold and there I was thinking it couldn't get worse after his Incinerator rescindment effort) and his fellow travellers make such a big deal about it?  Seems to me that if they're all each others peers, then effectively they are likely to hold broadly similar views to one another and you end up with a fairly self-perpetuating and self-fulfilling system.  And who decides they are each others peers anyway?  Sounds like a bit of the old-boys network, except perhaps a bit more right-on than that.

No, I just don't get climate change or whatever we're calling it this week.

Climate change locally:

Sea defences needing extra maintenance

Sea water temperature levels have risen over the last 40 years

Birds nesting earlier.

More southern species of flora and fauna appearing on the Island and in its surrounding waters.

Local weather experts do say that the weather patterns have changed, it does not mean that we will no longer have cold winters and snow.

El Nino, the North Atlantic Oscillation are evidence

Its happening here and now.

Scant Arctic ice could mean summer "double whammy"
"The last three years -- 2007, 2008 and 2009 -- had the lowest level of ice extent since satellite records began in 1979."

So the figures over the last three decades are an accurate indication of how a, millions of years old, natural eco-system works? ::)

It is quite apparent to me that global warming is not working in the manner that I thought it should.
perhaps a joke could illustrate this..........
Baby Polar Bear to Dad ,,,,,,Are you sure i,m a polar bear?
Dad,,,of course you are, i,m a polar bear , your mums a polar bear , go and ask your sister!
Baby,,,,,hello sis , are you sure i,m a polar bear ?
Sister,,,of course you are , dads a polar bear ,mums a polar bear  i,m a polar bear , why do you ask such a silly question?

Baby.........Cos i,m freakin freezing!

The Good News, forests fight back with the help of more sustainable forest practices.

The density of forests and woodland according to an article in the Mail, is actually increasing so fast that it is reversing the carbon loss, which Government are now spending billions to come to terms with funding wind mills and other non carbon producing systems.

In the article it says that thickening has taken place in 48 out of 65 countries that account for 72% of the worlds forests. The carbon losses caused by deforestation between 1990 and 2010 have been reversed.

Will this impress the greens? will  Parliament take notice as centre Wales and other great sites of green and pleasant countryside have been plagued with ugly imposing giant windmills.

Lets hope these claims can be put under Governments microscope.

For my very small part, I have saved a few embryonic baby trees re-potted them and offered them to a Jersey Farmer who was happy to plant them on his land. If my small gesture and interest is  normal consciousness throughout Europe esspecially amongest the young, then this study would certainly be very credible.

University of Helsinki and New Yorks Rockefeller University are named as the authors of the study.

On the face of it that is encouraging news. Unfortunately I could not find the relevant part on the link, and my Finnish is non-existent.
The problem may be the countries not covered.  Forest are far from evenly distributed as can be seen from this.
http://maps.grida.no/library/files/storage/0203_nrforest_208.jpg Logging in Brazil, Indonesia and some
African countries, continues apace.  These are the big forest areas, and their diminution could easily swamp the increase in the smaller forested countries.  I'd like to see the list of the relevant countries included in the report.

The world looked after itself long before folk, (who have only existed for a very little while),  became fashionably interested in its welfare.

I,m sure its old enough to look after itself.

"The world looked after itself" Yes, itself, not us. It is no use to us for insects and reptiles to inherit the Earth, if we can no longer live on it ourselves from the consequences of our own carelessness.

I t hink the world has shown us recently who is the boss and has the upper hand in the whole scheme of things.  I am a fatalist and will deal with whatever comes my way.

I have to admire some of the Japanese people, who in the face of adversity, are rebuilding their lives from nothing and with cheerfulness too!

I cannot, for one minute, imagine having nothing in the whole wide world and how I would approach life if I lost loved ones too.

Man is just one step away from the animal kingdom but he has the resourcefullness, imagination and creativity to rebuild his world.  It has been done before and no doubt be done a million times more before our little planet dies.

When you think of it Jersey is like a little earth in the scheme of things.  I don't think earth is really very important within the whole of the universe. Both Jersey and the earth will get sucked into the big BLACK HOLE!

A new sea level rise study has been published http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/06/13/1015619108
and a review at http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,769687,00.html  Seems to point very clearly to a significant sea level rise at the start of the industrial age. Consistent with, but not proof of, causality.

Also I note the UN has revised its figures for likely rise by the end of the century. The previous 59cm has now been revised to 90-160cm.

If any of these studies, (Past and present), were accurate we wouldn,t keep getting caught out by earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, hurricanes etc.
The fact is that humans, regardless of technology and studies, cannot change nature.
The earth has been here for a very long time, and is more than capable of looking after itself.
In its time, I,m sure it has seen-off many more dangers than the mere existence of mankind.
