I noticed that Deputy Labey has recently become a member of Planet Jersey.

She's not had the time to make a post as yet but she's got another three years so fingers crossed.

Question for Deputy Labey - "What steps have you taken to ensure the problem of e-coli in grouville bay has been rectified?"

Thanks

Razzard

I note that the ecoli thing seems to have died its own death! I went to South Afreeka a short while back, at the quacks I asked if I needed typhoid jabes, the wholesomly gorgeous laydee Doc told me that I was more likely to get typhoid on Grouville beach than in the whole of South Afreeka! She also told me I was overweight but I knew that one. So Deputy Labey, What say you? Have you been ignoring this? I thought it was Health's responsability anyway, I wish I knew.

Hello Razzard and Tinkerbell,

i joined Planet Jersey but got busy so didn't visit again. Yes i have been working on ecoli (as Jack will tell you). He bothered to email me, so i have had quite a lot of email correspondence with him and he had been copied in on much of my efforts. Sorry i don't then duplicate everything on to every other site going, but like i say, if anyone is interested they can email me directly.

No problem Deputy Labey. Glad your on board.

The point of PJ is that it's for public consumption. Lotta folks get a bit spooked by the idea of speaking directly to their elected officials. It's got something do with feeling let down in the past.

Jack has stated on this site that he would not vote you (if indeed your office were contested) - can you tell why he might have felt that way?

He struck me a person that cared deeply for Grouville.

I dont, "get Spooked", by speaking directly to officials.

Quite the reverse.

Name the ones you've spoken to. That way we might agree.

Hi Razzard

i don't know why Jack should say that, especially when he told me the opposite. Best ask him, what say you Jack?

i don't get spooked, but as i say, it is a question of time and having to duplicate all that you do for every site going would end up in nothing. If people are interested they can ask me. i will contribute when i can - like in the middle of the night like now.

Deputy Labey,

We can't ask Jack anything. He's no longer a poster on PJ - perhaps the only really relevant political online forum other then isthisjersey.

I would say that now you have entered the debate it's down to you prove that Jack's a liar. He's gone public - so why don't you?

Takes me 20 minutes to flick between the two sites and see what's topical and I'm not paid to know about this stuff. Just do it because I like to stay informed.

There is a large disconnect between the people of Jersey and the politicians who represent them. In part because those, like Jack, who have taken the time to learn in detail about the important issues, feel frustrated they are not listened to. Experts in science and the arts are brushed aside in the name of smooth government.

I guess Jack said what he did about you because he felt frustrated that you were not there for him.

If you would like to see a perfect example of this sort of representation go to;

planetjersey.co.uk > Political > Deputies 2008 > St Saviour No 2 - Candidates > Kevin Lewis > What has he done

And see how Moot asked Deputy Lewis for a few straight answers. They were not forthcoming and I for one felt a sense of sadness that those we believed where able to make a difference simply crumbled when the spotlight landed upon them.

I care about culture and hate how low it has sunk on our governments list of priorities. As the Assistant Minister you have had the responsibility to ensure that this did not happen.

Mike Vibert was not the man for the job but you chose to stand behind him and so do his bidding. He is almost gone, thank god, and now the spotlight falls squarely on you.

My girlfriend is dragging me to bed so I will have to say good night but I hope that we might talk again very soon, on a new thread that I will start tomorrow called;

New cultural realities for Jersey in a post Mike Vibert society.

Thanks for becoming a member of PJ and staying up late to listen to me.

Carolyn,

Thank you for doing the right thing.

You justify the faith which my vote (one amongst many) places you.

I am sorry about my harsh words, they are said in truth, and as such, are meant for good.

Jack

And to be honest Razzard i get a lot of feedback from contituents direct - cyperspace is a world of its own.

Jack got let out the door by the moderators for posting some real badass stuff so you ought to check his allegiances carefully.

Thanks for the warning but as time went on i picked up my own vibes. Which is another reason i am not a great fan of dealing with people under pseudonyms - sorry.

Welcome Carolyn ( Deputy Labey )

You are more than welcome to speak on here, thank you for taking the time.

You have now joined the ranks of (elected) people like Stuart Syvret, Sarah Ferguson, Sean Power and Deputy Lewis who have the confidence and conviction in what they believe in, to spend some time on this very very big stage. I applaud you.

There are some extremly intelligent, well read, local people (posters) that write on this forum. Regarding pseudonyms, this is how people are able to feed information to the forum without threatening their livelyhood in Jersey the very small village.

Just to comment on a couple of things you mentioned if I may.

Firstly cyber space, sort of brings up an image of weird, irresponcible, no mans land. I can understand how you feel, but I suggest that the way PJ is set up, it is no more and no less than what is says on the tin. A forum, which locals vent there views and opinions.

The Jersey Government has been moving very slowly towards some transparency, but has a very long way to go.

Stuart Syvret has harnessed the power of the internet, which he has done masterfully, when you see how many hits his blog has achieved.

Used sensibly this forum is a very powerful medium. Adrian Walsh the brains behind setting it up told me Yesterday,  that planetjersey had received a mere 7,616,629 hits from 34 countries since March.

It is impossible for any human to answer every question that is shot at them on here straight away. In my view Carolyn you are doing a difficult task and will not be able to please us all, at least we will have a further insight into the reasoning.

Regarding Jersey Heritage Trust using £1.9 million per annum from the public purse. As they employ 107 people in full time and part time work. Why are they giving the ES & C minister and your self so much extra work by not posting, detailed uptodate accounts on the internet as they used to. Further, work has been done on upgrading thier web site it is now bright and happy, please tell us why have they withdrawn all the accounts? even if the last posted was for the year 2004?

This is in my opinion, is a not the way to get the public trust. Excuse the pun.
