Who's Been a Naughty Candidate Then?

Tonights JEP makes this district look rather shifty in the pre-postal voting. Is it a case of Deja Vu ;)

Who do you think it is Jaws?

Care to speculate?

We have 7 candidates 3 of which are members of the JDA.

They are Rod Bryans, Sue Stoker, Giffard Aubin, Geoff Stubbon, Shona Pitman, Debbie does Dallas De Sousa and the one and only Adrian Walsh.

Now if the JEP are banging the drum on this one, as they rightly should, then I think the smart money would be on a JDA racket involving bed sits and low rental flats - of which there are many in my disctrict of St.Helier no 2.

Good theory or just a load of baloney?

As I vaguely remember, 2005 was when this method was first referred to....and in this district ;)

I got my house, business and a little one bedroom flat I rent out in number 2. Out of all of that though there's only one vote and that mine.

How does the racket work Jaws?

Could be prejudicial to give an explanation, use your imagination as to how anyone could corrupt the pre-postal vote in their favour by giving guidance on how the form should be filled ::) Allegedly ;)

This may help Razzard, the article explains the new laws.

Police launch investigation JEP tonight

POLICE are investigating whether an election candidate or supporters in a St Helier district may have broken a new election law.
Assistant Judicial Greffier Advocate Paul Matthews contacted the police after a member of his staff became suspicious about some postal voting applications. It is believed that the applications in question had been made in relation to voters in St Helier No 2 District. The penalty, if found guilty of such an offence, is a fine of up to £2,000.

If a candidate were really clever, they could perhaps,"Diddle",the postal voting stuff in favour of another candidate and then tip-off the relevant authorities.

Nah, Jersey doesn,t do Paranoia.

Does it??

It appears the candidate has not been that smart.....that should narrow it down a bit ;)

Never mind the fine, shouldn't the candidate be removed from the poll if it is shown that an act of corruption has taken place?

email sent to all candidates (with the exception of Giffard Aubin who I will telephone) and to the newsdesks (though got an error from the 103 address)

Subject: report of unlawful postal voting.

As you all may be aware, there has been a report that a person or persons in St Helier district No 2 may have broken the election laws in regard to postal voting.

In order to show that this is a democratic election and that fraud or misrepresentation of the electorate should not be accepted,  can we all agree that if one or more candidates is/are found guilty of such unlawful actions by the police investigation, that they confirm that they will accept no count on their behalf for postal votes cast for themselves. This to remain in force until the police investigation is concluded and any action, if any, taken.

It may be that there is no unlawful activity taking place, but I believe that it is important to document this decision by all candidates and show true democracy in these elections.

Please take this email as my confirmation that I agree to the above decision.

Would you all like to confirm this individually via return email to  everyone or advise of your refusal and reasons?

Regards

Adrian Walsh

Hi,

I can only comment on St. Brelade No.2 The electorate is about 4,980. I had 6 postal votes in 2005.

I, therefore, never cease to be amazed by the Parishioners of St. Helier No. 2 and St.Martin, that seem to love postal votes.

Why is St. Helier No. 2 and St. Martin so different to the pattern of other Parishes or constituencies ?

Agree fully with Jaws.   Not hard to work out from previous Elections. With now having postal votes at this Election, could be a fatal decision,Great deal easier, too, as its common Knowledge at all elections to first seek out the retired and elderly pensioners being majority voters, If fraud is taking place
could become the most vunerable. Usually to be found in the Highrise, along with lowerblocks of flats, or Residential Homes.
doted around St Helier, and outskirts, Instance, Hugh Court, Union St,
The Cedars, Route de Fort, Windsor Rd, near New St,Easy anywhere when using a town map and lists of registered voters e.c.t.Elderly remaining the main target in these areas for candidates.
Postal fraud should consist of complete disqualification of any candidates,Should, even at a later date having been voted in and  sitting States Member and should still apply.Perhaps a re-count of a culprits votes would be the way forward in knowing, or how genuine they were. :(

Some funny goings on with the Town Districts, where Police Constable Arthur Selby is investigating someone known only by the code name “Postman Pat”. Apparently Pat may or may not have been sending in bogus postal votes, helping old people who cannot get to the polls like Granny Dryden and Peter Fogg to fill in their election voting forms when they asked him for help to do so. Pat then takes the voting forms in his van to the Town Hall where his cat Jess hops out and posts them in the voting box provided. This was noted by businessman Sam Waldron as he was driving round in his mobile shop, and he passed the information on to the police authorities who are looking into this, and have this as evidence:

Postman Pat, Postman Pat,
Dropping by old people for a friendly chat
Early in the morning, Just as day is dawning,
He collects the postal votes within his van.

Postman Pat, Postman Pat,
Postman Pat wants to get rid of VAT,
All the votes are counted and the day is just beginning.
Pat feels he's a really happy man.

£2,000 fine if found guilty? They should be disqualified!
