How is it that Jeremy can honestly do his stuff and liaise with us proles here on planet Jersey and his mother is the Moderator?
Who is going to answer this one? The reason I ask is that until the apron strings are cut, things will go from bad to worse.

Would there be objections if Macon paid his mother for secretarial services? or if his secretary wasn't related?

Re signing CM nomination forms.

As explained in the States procedures, newly elected members can sign nomination forms etc.

It is they, after all, who will be in the house and will be electing the CM.

For similar reasons, outgoing members cannot sign such forms.

Stuart

But 14 outgoing members can help approve a £650 million annual budget for which they cannot and will not be held accountable.

That situation absolutely stinks.

What if, last week, every sitting deputy had lost their seat, leading to 29 new incoming members next week? We would then be in the extraordinary - but feasible - situation of a majority of members approving next year's budget, which they will not be around for. What if the Treasury minister had been one such deputy? It stinks.

The extraordinary timing of the budget debate throws up this anomaly every three or six years.

I am ashamed that we are spending £650m next year, approved by 14 failed or retiring politicians.

States members who tune in to PJ - are you going to address this, it's clearly an area of States reform that should be addressed?

He has organised this meeting for the Parishoners to discuss who they want as their CM, yet he has already signed a nomination form. Therefore he has already made up his mind and therefore this meeting is pointless, should'nt he have had this meeting sooner instead of watching his mummy email people!!!

If the parish votes go to Terry Le Sueur, there are two courses of action, one he could take, one he should take.

1) He could say that having checked with his parishioners, he will back Terry le Sueur. But unless it is a large turnout, that would be extremely foolish, especially as his election platform was critical of Terry Le Sueur. And if small numbers, the meeting could be packed out with TLS activists.

2) He should announce the percentage of the electorate that gave a decision, and the results of that decision, even if he is not abiding by it, to be honest to the States about the result of that poll. That is certainly what i would expect him to do.

I think it is a silly stunt. By holding his unofficial ballot he is admitting that he doesnt know who he should vote for.

He,d be as well holding his meeting in St Saviours hospital.

He should vote for whoever those who voted for him want to be Chief Minister.  This is what politicians are meant to do, represent the views of those who voted for them.

So, he's on the right track here.
