Its as easy to become a ,"Communist", when your skint as it is to become a ,"Conservative", when your flush.

You don't need any qualifications to be in the States some big names of the past had little academic achievement to boast about.

Exactly - that is precisely why we are in the mess we are and why people are disatisfied and need to use blogs to vent their feelings.

The Old Boys Club has been used by a lot of the left wing fanatics over the past few elections.  Even Lenny Harper has used it when he got upset with the AG.  Its a stupid thing to keep on saying though.

So anyone who's of the opinion that there's a old boys network or cosy unofficial party is stupid then.

Maybe you should take some time out and read through Hansard of the past few years.

Thanks Extreme, didn't think I saw any OBC posters during the last campaigns!  It'll be Freemasonry responsible for all our ills next, mark my words!

Newmac - the majority in the House generally vote the way I'd prefer so I'm happy enough.  If they want to informally co-ordinate things it doesn't bother me, as long as they keep some of the more nit-wit "tax and spenders" at bay.

Sorry but there it is..............

Basically the "old boys club" do not represent the ordinary people, in particular the middle taxpayers. However, since these are the ones who habitually don't vote, we find the same people getting re-elected. There are also a lot of voters who don't bother finding out what the candidates stand for and and more or less pick them because they know the name. Then you get the people who are terrified of change and think that anyone who wants to change anything must be a communist or radical - as long as they're all right, never mind about anyone else.

So the important issues such as housing, immigration, education, healthcare, all these things languish in more or less the same limbo as they always have until a major crisis arises and then it makes headlines for a while but basically it soon just goes back to how it always was. This is what the establishment depend on, the complacency of most of the population. This is such a shame as we could do so much good for everyone in the Island if we had more progressive thinking States members. Some of the cases I've seen are so sad and yet so much could be done if the political will was there and we could give our young people such fantastic opportunities that they wouldn't need to leave the Island in droves.

Much more tosh from you and I may feel the need to leave the Island myself!
Children are not leaving in droves. I know a whole generation of children who have left to go to Uni , all of whom are now back on the rock , working .So which children are you referring to?
The middle class = the middle tax payers , DO vote ! that is why middle of the road politics and politicians continue to triumph over belligerent ,marxist, muppets .
It is the so called working class , the ones who derive the most benefit from the system via free education, health and housing who do not bother to vote , and why should they ? They have never had it so good!
For the benefit of any doubt, Jersey is the promised land for those of the single parent, unable to work, drug taking, alcohol swilling, unemployed or unemployable.
That is why the middle class bothers to vote , so that we do not have to hand over any more of our hard earned dosh to the systems abusers. The poor, the weak, the infirm and elderly are excluded from the above rant.

Ruddler - Don't ever underestimate the power and corruption of Freemasonry, alive and thriving in Jersey!! Members of the funny handshake brigade will look after their 'brethren' to the exception of all others believe you me.

Another SS in Jersey, but more dangerous than Stuart, a secret society, and not the Enid Blyton sort.

There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves. They alone are the safest depository of the ultimate powers of government.

Thomas Jefferson was a freemason, as was George Washington and just about every other American President since. In Jersey, there are no freemasons in the States, the Judiciary or at a senior level in any of the Government departments. The average age of freemasons in Jersey is well over 65 and the majority of those have enough trouble controlling their bladders let alone the world. They do raise a lot of money for charities though. Just another crackpot conspiracy theory alongside the Bilderberg Group, the Illuminati and the fake Moon landings.
The main concern here is that we have two sitting States members who have admitted breaking the Law during the course of their election campaign and they both fully expect to remain in the States. Since when has it been a defence that you broke the law because you didn't agree with it? Both should have been suspended from day one pending the outcome of the case and now they have pleaded guilty they should be removed and their seats put up for re-election. I am not a Stuart Syvret fan but he was suspended from the House just for having a bit of a rant, Southern and Pitbull have acted illegally, immorally and carelessly yet they still feel that they have a right to retain their seats. Like electricity, our government always takes the path of least resistance.
