Senator Ozouf got my vote at the last elections and seeing as he is second in charge now I hope one day he becomes Chief Minister.

Yes, he is an intelligent man and could apply this to help the island
However he is obsessed ( and I mean obsessed ) with statistics ( Mr Stat ? ), hyperactive and most serious of all : He cannot help wasting our money !
Just watch him next time in a TV interview how he keeps nodding and jumping up and down. Definately not a good hand at out till in hard times
Couple of years ago he gave the Battle of Flowers £90.000 without telling anyone
Luckily he was found out. How much is he giving away without it being discovered ?

They all waste money.  Simon Crowcroft did a fine job of the JMT debacle a few years ago.

He couldn't be CM, he doesn't stick by his promises, i.e. standing down for re-election last year.  Contrary to what he said when seeking election only a few months earlier.

Well, Southern or Ozouf to look after our money. Hmmmm.....

Southern is always telling us how he is going to make everyones lives better by giving them money (mostly the lower class/unemployable/scroungers/old/trade unionists and plain stupid) and while some do require more help from the government, especially the old, not all of them do. However, he never explains how he will get cash in to pay for these things so you could probably kiss goodbye to the rainy day fund if he had got the job.

Also remember that Crowcroft was not just part of the JMT bus thing, but was also a decision maker on some of the waterfront and the castle ferry debacle? Who has put in so much "resident parking" without increasing the number of parking spaces in st Helier that the parish coffers are starting to overflow with the fines from people who park outside their own homes as a last resort because they could not get on the list for a resident parking permit and cant find a place to park at night? I admit he would probably make a good treasury minister, but not too sure on chief minister.

I am going to be watching Ozouf to make sure that he does start to cut the costs and look after our futures. He has not been in the job 2 minutes and yet people have already made their mind up about his ability, without giving him time to prove himself in this role.

Figures below, in my opinion show that " most " sitting  states members have turned a blind eye to looking after our money. In 2004 there were a mere 284 states workers earning £70,000 or much more, only four years later 2007 there are a fantastic 462. The total wage bill for this small island is more than an eye watering £295,000,000.

The Treasury Minister Phillip Ozouf has a difficult job, an unenviable task in keeping spending manageable. It is obvious to everyone that the wage bill for Jersey is a major ongoing expense. It will be interesting to see how Ministerial Government has produced efficiency's in staffing levels for 2008 ? or is it still heading into outer space ?

My immediate observation is that, amongst the 270 non-trading staff earning £70,000 to £89,999 (inclusive of pension benefits), you can probably count a large number of middle/senior management teaching and health staff.

I would hazard a guess that it costs £70,000 to employ a long-serving head of department in a secondary school, if you take their pension contributions into account.

The trouble is, nobody wants to cut spending on schools and health.

Just playing devil's advocate for a minute:

Maybe the 2004 total package for a senior education employee was, say, £68,000.
In 2007, taking annual rises into account, the total package could easily have tipped over to, say £72,000 and would then have to be reported in these figures.

I would suggest that, in 2004, there were a load of people just under the £70,000 theshold.

I see what you're saying, but surely a head of dept. in a school doesn't earn £70K plus?

They're paid between £35K and £50K in the UK, according to current situations vacant.

Afraid he does danrock, I have an old friend who is a headmaster, about five years ago he told me he was on £75K. I am not joking.

If you work in the hospital as say a porter, if you work your second day off, you automatically get treble time and if on a bank holiday you secure a day in lou also.

Another world !! if you working for a department in the states. Like banking I have heard that bonuses are being handed out to civil servants this is rumour but the telephone technicians definitely attracted bonuses as I saw the advert.

Sorry off topic but every bank holiday costs the public purse a fortune, because there are always workers in the States making piles of the stuff on overtime. Notice the pay scales don't even start before £70K in the official pay scale above, what does that tell you ? 470 making £68,000 and another 784 making £56,000 Maybe ? a states member could insist on a proper breakdown ?
