And the constables were away (at a swearing in ceremony for the centeniers) when Deputy Reed was making his speech and answering questions. Assuming 11 out of 12 voted for Reed they elected someone without hearing his mandate. Crazy.

Oh brother. What's wrong with States Members? In a two way contest they elect a man that says nothing and does very little over a man who is has a PhD and is widely respected by professionals in the Education sector.

Well done numbskulls - you lot have alected a broken reed.

A safe pair of hands for the establishment I think. RLH was a far better choice just shows how detatched the states are.

No SAFE or hands for anyone. Partcularly for anyone who has children in education

Boy oh Boy, How the Chief civil servants and those close to the ministers will be clapping their hands. Having retained all their power over the choice  of ministers now placed in the jobs they know nothing about. Over others who would, Were proved more suitable, having spoken out with more  knowledge, and experienced in choice of future Ministers,    Turned around,
Afraid better candidates chosen would stand up much better to both ex ministers, and chief officers? Showing them as no longer fit for purpose,Their high wages no longer justified,T.Le Sueur, as with others scared in taking on better educated candidates fools no one.
This is T,Le Sueur Idea of doing HIS best for Jersey is it? ???

Moot read the first sentence exactly as I wrote it. You will then see what I mean.

I knew already. Had a go at the fools who voted him in not you
No worries
Would have been so happy with RLH, a wise man who commends repect

I saw the interview with James Reed, and I just hope he is brighter than he sounds.

To be fair, some people are better at being interviewed than others, but by and large he came across to me as someone doing a Homer Simpson impression. I didn't know whether it was a cunning strategy to confound his opponents or not...

Since he was elected unopposed in 2005 as well, it is very difficult to find out his background for being minister of education. Any ideas anyone?

We'll have to see if he is more open and transparent than Mike Vibert was. Judging from that interview, more vacant, but that's not quite the same as transparent.

I would have hoped the minister for education would know the correct structure of a sentence - however is there alot of suspects up at education as I believe he said something along the lines that he would have to suspend all staff ;D
Just for today do not anger

I think his flawed argument went somewhere along the lines of:
- there are suspects
- he believes in "innocent until proven guilty"
- the suspects haven't been proven guilty and therefore are innocent so they're no different from the non-suspects
- therefore if he suspends those suspected, he would have no reason not to suspend those who are not suspects.

I don't think he quite understands the concept of suspect; that the police must have some reason for considering these people suspect and that when the safety of children is concerned, surely this is enough of a reason to remove them temporarily from the education department.

I agree, he was caught off guard in this interview and perhaps, having had time to prepare answers to these questions (or ask someone else who could) beforehand, might have been able to come up with some sensible answers. I guess only time will tell.

Aha, a minister caught without a civil servant to brief him! No wonder he came across like a character from Tony Handcock's "The Bowmans", an everyday story of simple people.

What he said was not exactly what I'd call an argument, unless you like fuzzy logic. Where was he educated?

I suspect that having missed having to speak at hustings for 2 successive elections (2005, 2008) has caused his neural pathways to atrophy.
