If every politician that broke the law resigned how many would be left standing!
I hope all you people that are commenting took part in the elections and used your vote - unlike the majority of the electorate!

VOTER Apathy is what has got Jersey into the position it is in now..........

If Pitman nad Southern stand down - no problem - they will just get in again with a higher majority - in this case the law is an ass, and thank you Geoff and Shona for outing such a ridiculous law - it is a great pity that the legal profession will be the winners in this case - the cost to defend themselves will be astronomical!

Why don't you bloggers consider the underlying law - WHY is it a criminal offence to engage the electorate??????????????????????????????? FORGET THE PERSONALITIES and consider the issue!

It's a criminal offence because the law that was passed in the States (by a majority of our elected leaders)  says it is.  You can't have it both ways.  You can't have a democracy only when it suits you.

If I am arrested for speeding on Victoria Avenue and lose my licence as a result, is it a fair defence that I should be able to continue driving as my personal view is that the limit is too low ? If the boot was on the other foot and this offence had been committed by an 'establishment' politician who refused to go, you would have the usual malcontents calling for revolution, and for once, they might actualy have a point.

Yes but if the person alongside you was also speeding and actually going considerably faster than you overtaking you at the time, would you expect the AG to say that you should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but that the person overtaking you should not be prosecuted as it was not in the public interest, both cases of course being equally provable? Anyone would scream like a stuffed pig at the injustice of it then!

The speed limit isn't too low, unless there is a very good reason for you to be speeding, i.e. a matter of life or death, in which case, yes, you could be let off under the law.

There are circumstances when you can break the law and not be punished, but your justification has to be pretty extreme, but it will still have to be dealt with in court.

It is tempting to play devil's advocate here: these two are a pair of idiots for making themselves vulnerable in this way, but it's also obvious that all of the people who think Southern & co. are the Spawn of Satan (several people I know genuinely think that he is "evil") are relishing the opportunity to get rid of them.

I thought it was the greffier that dobbed SP and GS in it - the same greffier who dobbed Stuart Syvret in to the Bayleaf  ( in camera debacle)- who then dobbed Stuart Syvret in to Juliette Gallichan, who then dobbed Stuart Syvret Syvret in to the assembly, it was then Mike Higgins who dobbed JG into the assembly  for claiming it was her idea to dob Stuart in when in fact it was the Bayleaf's idea.................. but then the Bayleaf dobbed in the Greffier for bringing it to his attention ...................

Well Rico , there I was thinking you are not a bad bloke and then you come out with a comment like this .
You seriously think that vote rigging is acceptable , that you and me and anyone else who cares to vote , can be cheated because some prick goes around asking every granny in sight, every person who can not make it to the polls , and even quite a few who could , but could not be arsed to get off their seats,to fill in this form ? no worries  love , don,t worry leave that to me , just sign here . Acceptable ??? you are off your head or confused by your own prejudice!! Even more interesting would be how many homes did he /she visit that did not want to vote for JDA  (just do anything) candidates, who they did not help to fill in the relevant forms. Self Interest, greed and Megolamania as I have previously stated are not the preserve of the "Oligarchy".
 Rico you should be ashamed.

I thought they said it was the registration forms that they had helped people fill in :-\

So those people could still have chosen who to vote for or even not to vote at all.

Slightly off Topic,(Sorry, couldn,t find a matching subject, and dont know how to start new threads).

But can anyone tell me if it is OK to serve on a Jury in Jersey if you have a criminal record? (I know its ok to serve as a states member etc, but I was just wondering).

Previously posted as the artiste "Rogueelement" but due to artistic conflict and royalty demands , now posting in my "real name" Nice to know you think they should go , but I doubt they will share your belief, as I have stated in
previous postings, you are dealing with people (left and right) who do not have an ounce of humility, nor a shred of deceny, for whom , power and money are the be all and end all .
I simply wish that we could go back to the good old days ,when what was good for the politicians was actually good for Jersey, no politicians wages , no interminable conferencing , civil servants, consultants at £1m for every decision we had to make . Strangely enough talking to guys on the shop floor they are even more pee'd off than I am .
Lets just let this tent fold and have one MP .We really do not need more than 1 person on this tiny rock trying to make a name for themselves politically.
