Senator Philip Ozouf trying to save the oligarchy
« on: February 10, 2009, 01:16:34 PM »
If you have tonight's rag, you will see a story headlining that Ozouf wants to freeze members pay during the recession.  He's imitating President Obama, but that's not my point.

He also wants to see a lower salary for new members, and thinks £43K is too much for new members.

This "principal" sounds very wrong to me.

The oligarch's don't go in to politics for a relatively modest salary, they have money already, without having to get out of bed.  The want the power, prestige, and status (within the tiny world's they live in).

Meanwhile, anyone from a modest background, who is intelligent and competent may be put off by a low starting salary.  They may already be earning £43K or more, in the private sector, and won't be able to afford a cut in earnings.

This man must be stopped, before he gets the chance to ensure that all of our politicians are nothing but self-serving millionaires!

Excellent logic there Danrok

Ozouf is being a moron. I'd rather they were all on 100k a year and absolutely earning it while saving elsewhere than just have them earning a crust while sat on their fat arses.

If, between them, they managed to save the Public purse 6-10 million per annum, they would be worth a £100,000 salary.

They could probably save that just by cutting out their, "Jollies".

Stuart Syvret has picked-up on this one, in his blog here:

He adds plenty of valid points there, take a look.

Ozouf is total the wrong kind of person ( won't call him a man") to be in the States. He is some kind of worm, the money that has wasted is unbelieveable! Always hides behind others ( no surprise there ). I have taken action over the mistake in the contract for the incinerator, sound really good but that this plainly obvious that someone was going to be in trouble. Why didn't T Le S check before getting g de f to sign. You know, have all the boxes been tick then mr. civil servant can i go through the contract with you. 30 mins of time would have saved £7.5m. and T le S is an accountant! NO WONDER THERE IS A RECESSION!!

Our treasury Minister Ozouf is the champion spender of all time !
JEP 27 October 2008
STATES spending on consultants has almost doubled since the start of ministerial government.
Figures obtained by the JEP reveal how much ministers have spent on consultants, hotel accommodation and travel over the last two years. They also show what was spent before ministerial government began in December 2005.
The figures were obtained under the Code of Practice on Public Access to Official Information. The three-year spending on consultants’ fees and expenses topped £7.7m over the three-year period, while travel costs reached £2.7m — and £1.3m was spent on hotel accommodation.
Among the biggest spenders was Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf, who took consultant spending from £272,000 under his predecessor to totals of £950,000 and £907,000 in 2007 and 2006 respectively.

There is simply no stopping him - He is got his hands on all our money !

He,s now got millions to play with.

That is seriously bliddy scary.

The worrying thing is that he handed this money out without asking or telling anyone in government or treasury
When he was caught he simply said : They needed it !!
This shows a serious flaw in an otherwise intelligent man. Very scary !

Dont know where you get the, "Otherwise Intelligent", from. Unless your talking about his use of immigrant labour to run his family business.

Wonder if ROU ever give him problems when he is recruiting?

Right on Gordon Brown!!! High flyers are ok when it comes to money but when it comes down to working on a workshop floor were the work is done to keep this island's infrastucture going ( hands on the rough end of jobs ) they would not have a clue!!!!!!!!!!!!  Which is one of the main problems the States have now. Civil servants with no experience of hands on the tools! Money cannot repair machinery it needs someone who knows what to do, not a useless accountant. Who made the desk you sit on? Mr. Pound note, i do not think so.
