DEPUTY Montfort Tadier has admitted falling asleep overnight in the States building - but says he was working, not sleeping off a night on the town.

The St Brelade No 2 Deputy made a brief statement in the House today because he said he did not want other Members to get into trouble, and because of ‘false and scurrilous’ allegations that he had been drunk.

He said that he dropped off after working late in the Members’ room and the Computer room, after meetings with constituents in town.

Another politician who had gone into work just after 5.30 am is believed to have discovered the Deputy asleep in one of the conference rooms downstairs, on Friday 1 May, after the three-day States sitting.

During States question time yesterday, a number of politicians raised concerns about the incident and pressed the chairman of the Privileges and Procedures Committee about it.

No official complaint was made about the incident, according to States Greffier Michael de la Haye, who did not reveal the name of the offending States Member.

I bet there will be a complaint about it now.

I really don't see what the problem is, okay so he fancied sending some emails late at night whilst in town rather than Q for a cab, what is the problem, is it supposed to be at 9.5 job? I don't think so, maybe he is enthusiastic about his job you cynical lot

Why was another member going in at 5.30?
Who was this workaholic?
Seriously someone going to work at 5.30 AM is just about as dodgey as someone having a sleepover party.

Have you never done a job that wasn't 9-5, Mon.-Fri.?  Of all the jobs I've had I've had times when I've been at work early and or late, so I don't see this as strange.  Often the reason for odd hours has been because I've held more responsibility than those who are able to just switch off at 5pm; so I imagine the responsibilities that a conscientious politician would feel would mean working other than to a rigid schedule.

Aren't you supposed to be working in accordance with your own 9 to 5 standards right now?  ;)
