Damage like lower prices; proven, popular, quality products...? The benefits to customers do count, too.

Being "major" or "international" does not make a company evil and destroy all it touches. Justify your criticisms, please.

Hmmm!

"Arms International" is not a prosthetic outfit.
The "Major" pig farm in mexico causing the uncontrolled source of Swine flu is not very people friendly.
The "international" financier in the States (er USA) wasn't acting exactly in everyone else's interest when he assisted our current economic climate.

So what? That organisations that could be described as "major" or "international" have screwed up royally doesn't mean all will do something as bad or worse to us. This logic is just appallingly lazy.

Surely if you wanted to take the island by storm then you could have offered fresher and better pizzas than what is already available and you could have marketed it as fresh local produce, and better than dominoes.

Franchises have not done well over here so I think you would have had an oppurtunity to out do them yet you blame shipping and taxes as the reason. Why didnt you just burn off the dominos crap and instead make a superior locally based product?

I had another Alvins pizza on Saturday, first time since I wrote my last bit of drivel on this thread but I have to say it was a heck of a lot better than previously so fair play. I do have one constructive critisism though, Jalapeno peppers are not hot enough, perhaps there could be one marketed as hot with actual hot peppers, i.e. thai birds eye or scotch bonnet (or even one for the drunk orderers the offer of a few drops of Da Bomb chilli sauce!), but apart from that a very satisfied customer from now on!

i like alvins pizzas(thin base) tasty and quick delivery.
would love to see emmerude back on the route, cheaper, better timings, i am lucky that the small boats from albert pier are back, and my mate can pick me up from the docks in st malo.
would love to take my motor bike, but too costly these days.
my hope is to bag the winning ticket in the hospice draw, i can then buy a dwelling , and take the bike away.

JEP did not bother with this story, and it looks like Condor, are either struggling if they cannot repair their boats properly or getting to greedy by not providing the money to repair them properly? Either way the erratic service is not helping the tourism industry, whats left of it.

Guernsey Press.

A COMPANY that once fought to get the Channel Islands ferry route has confirmed it would have little interest in taking on the lifeline link now.

A P&O spokesman said the Channel Islands market was too small and fuel had become too expensive for the route to be profitable.

The ferry company came close to winning a tender to operate in the islands in 1998.
Eventually the States voted 30-20 in favour of Condor.

Bring back the conventional ferry i.e.  Mail Boat type. You had a service that was always on time 2 boats every morning leaving Jersey at 8am and 10am. 2 arriving in the evening at 6pm and 8pm leaving again at 10pm.
You could go to Guernsey at 8am arrive at 9.30am and get the 8pm boat back that was a nice long day out. Also if the weather is good sitting outside enjoying the trip. Yes it was slow compared with the fast ferry but it was absolutely always on time.  Now Condor has a conventional ferry all they need do is to get 2 more. One for France an d the other to go with the one already on the England route.
Brittany Ferries pass us every day give them a shout to call in.

That service was operated by British Rail when it was owned by the UK government.

So, there is no chance now, of a similar service.

Yes it was BR that run the boat ( mailboats ). There is nothing stopping anybody else from doing it. Condor are running one now called the Clipper. Just needs a slightly bigger ship and more comfort and you are there. The mailboats did 22.5 knots took 6 hours from Weymouth to Jersey , 8hours if stopping at Guersney.

The old,"Mail boats", used to bring the, "Bucket and spade brigade", (Many of whom were employed by British Rail and benefited from subsidised travel costs), that ,"The powers that be", decided weren,t good enough for Jersey,s image.

Tourism is reaping what it sowed.
"The bucket and spade brigade", used to come to Jersey for cheap drink, cigarettes, jewellery and tax-free betting. They spent all their holiday money in locally owned establishments, and business boomed.

By trying to go, "Upmarket", Jersey Tourism bit the hand that fed it.

"Simples".

It was mostly factor works with their 2 weeks holidays. Tell someone today that up to 1000 people would come down to the Albert Pier to watch the mailboats come and go and they would not believe you. It really was a sight to see with the pier full up with people, cars, taxis and lorries. My job was to lokk after the cranes so i would sit up in one of them that was working the mailboat in case of a breakdown and just watch the scene. The only trouble with boats like the mailboat was it's capacity to hold only about 10 cars in total the rest of the cargo hold was taken up with luggage and mail.
