Tax windfall profits on land says Deputy

Windfall profits from rezoned land in Jersey should be taxed says St Helier Deputy Trevor Pitman.

Deputy Pitman's concerned that individuals will make huge profits from selling on land, but little tax will be produced for the benefit of islanders.

I am sure this was been suggested by regular posters on Planet Jersey some time ago but is the time right when we have a slump in the housing market?

Yes, some of us put in manifestos at the last senatorial elections. Now is as good a time to do it as any other.  Unless the rate is eye wateringly high, it is most unlikely to prevent an application for rezoning. The instant capital gain on rezoning a couple of vergee of agricultural land to housing is enough for most mortals to retire on.

I thought it was something to do with the, "new servers etc", stuff.
Bring in a new, "High heid yin", to show the sponsors how busy the site can be for their adverts etc?
