Vote of No Confidence in our Chief Minister.
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:53:39 PM »
From the actions and words of our chief minister over the last few days, someone really needs to bring forward a vote of no confidence in our Chief Minister (Mods will you add a poll to the effect in here). Lets see a facebook group for calls for "vote of no confidence in Chief Minister". JTM or JDA would you start it? Or a signed petition in town. Another 20,000 residents for the government to ignore.

I will sign, as I really have no confidence in his abilities to look after the general public (ie those who are not millionaires) and most importantly to tell the whole truth.

I have asked my local deputy to bring a vote of no confidence against Frank Walker to the States with what I believe to be good reason and evidence. Alas it appears my representative in the States appears more inclined to represent the states than he does me.

I do not think a vote of no confidence would do any good at all - it is time to rise up and either organise a petition or a rally - it is high time ordinary people got off their apathetic backsides and showed their support for Stuart Syvret.................the establishment are probably hoping that SS will crack up just like a former activist did a few years ago ..............

We have an abundance of politicians but where are they now - sitting firmly on the establishment fence - keeping tight lipped - what a lilly livered bunch they are  - happy to take their 40k plus for what - toeing the line - is that how passionate they are about this rock.

How dare they stamp their feet in condemnation of Stuart Syvret in the States Chamber this week - let the people stamp thier feet in the Royal Square......................

Surely a rally or something could be a thread the moderaters could start to see what kind of support there is. I totally agree with you we should be getting off our arses and doing something constructive, although i'm not sure apathy is the correct term. The way our government is structured added with there control over our entire local media, you can complain, rant and rave as much as you like but every door is covered.

Now is the time to make a stance against our government, while the national media are here, we may never get this opportunity again. Please count me in on any rally. Let's stop complaining about it and do something, strike while the iron is hot!

The establishment knows that Stuart Syvret is now more popular than ever, and there is nothing they can do about it.

He has even shown to be popular in the national media, probably because he speaks his mind and is open, and people respect him for that.  We are lucky to have him and if there were to be an election now, he would win it with a landslide.

The only thing that has surprised me is the lack of any message from the Jersey Democratic Alliance.  We have heard nothing from Southern & Co.

If I was a member of this party I would be embarrassed about it.

If Stuart wants to be Chief Minister then maybe it is up to him to say so.

I certainly don't like the idea of Le Sueur being our Chief Minister.  Especially with that voice. :-\

Maybe a demonstration directed at Frank Walker and the establishment would be better idea,
rather than one supporting Stuart as they would be able to use that to there advantage, ie claiming that it's just another attempt by Stuart to undermine the states.
But if the people showed that they have had enough of the constant cover ups and members self interest. It might have more impact with the media

We have many politicians at the moment being quiet, but possibly because to be seen to be politicising at this time would be in bad taste. They could show where their mettle though by organising a drive to get more cash collected for Childline who have helped so many this last week, and start setting up areas where people without internet access can discuss the issues and come to terms with this terrible issue.

The majority on people in the Island are not surfing about getting information on this, they are reading the JEP, and I am afraid, that therefore the majority are just hearing the cover ups from the JEP and are starting to think that weverything is fine. Our politicians should be telling them the truth, but also advising them on the changes on policy that will prevent this sort of thing from happening again and how and when they will push this through expediently.

I can confirm that there are a number of politicians viewing this thread at various times of the day and night. Also Police, reporters and the general public, as well as many many guests who view from all over the world.

Politicians - the world IS watching.

Its not his voice that bothers me, its his principles.

200 RICH people petitioned him because they didn't want to pay tax on their fuel for their Luxury Cruisers. Result - Backed down and no tax

20,000  residents petitioned him to stop GST as they didn't want to pay tax on their food. Result - Ignored. It starts soon.

I believe this says everything about this horrible little man. Joe Pascalli voice or not, in my opinion he is corrupt in his views and his actions.

Be fair now, it must be so expensive filling up a big fuel tank on a luxury motor yacht. They need some change left over to fill the hold with cases of cheap French booze.

The Telegraph have cast their vote:

There is always stiff competition for the title of unloveliest public figure of the week, but today we have a clear winner: Senator (how grand it sounds) Frank Walker, who rules Jersey as Chief Minister. The chief's rule has coincided with the uncovering of perhaps one of the most appalling child abuse scandals in the history of our islands. He made it clear in a BBC interview on Monday that he doesn't much like his colleague Senator Stuart Syvret, whom he beat for the post in 2005 and whom he recently had thrown out of his health post after a vote of no-confidence. This glorified town council has not prevented scandal, and possibly murder, occurring in its child care. Senator Walker, basking in his self-importance and clearly used to the politics of the stitch-up, radiated complacency and smugness when challenged on air by Senator Syvret, who blew the whistle on this horror. Jersey is insular in more ways than one. Will it remain insular enough, though, to tolerate such a banana-republic style of governance for much longer?

Hello all from a complete newbie ;)

This is all great stuff people! But I think that rallies (sounds a bit twee doesn't it?) and pertitions are a little bit temps passé. The real people of this island, and that includes people from ALL walks of life, need to take some very positive action to bring about change before its too late again!

A big fat Demo is, I think, a good idea to try to get this bafoon out. Lots of noise, banners, placards and angry (but peaceful) protest. Not on a weekday when many cannot attend but on a Saturday am perhaps. Don't bother inviting our local media because like all good forlock tuggers they will turn it into something it ain't! Invite the UK national papers and the telly/radio folks as well. Perhaps one or two UK politicians could pop over to see for themselves the strength of feeling? But remember people, you need an alternative to the man! Think about it very carefully, out of the frying pan and into the fire and all that.

The gathering should be also a place to show our soldarity with all those who silently suffer abuse and I would suggest at least a two minutes of total silence as a mark of respect. Local politicians should also be invited, even Shaft Walker himself could attend and answer his beloved fellow islanders for which he cares so very much ???

To spread the news a leaflet campaign could be started with said leaflets being handed out in town and or from door to door. Don't rely on the JEP to hand out any with the post coz the lifestyle/property freebies take up far to much space!

I also suggest a boycott of the JEP with immediate effect! This Walker/States/Establishment rag is only useful for lighting your fire at home or checking the hatched/matched/dispatched bit at the back. Why anyone would purchase this utter trash is beyond me. Have you noticed how few letters re the last weeks terrible news have been printed. They must have had bucket loads, just check out the 'Have your say' section of the BBC Jersey website to see how many have voiced their opinions! Yet we have been treated to pages of former residents of care homes telling us how wonderful it all was >:(

Phew, anyway thats my spleen vented. So all of you who listen, get out there and change it folks because it isn't going to change itself! Use a big dollop of 'People Power' and stand up for yourselves because your politicians and the wealthy that dominate this little rock won't.

Right, better get back to work before I get the sack for rabble rousing ;)
