More comments sought about island plans

Islanders are being given an extra three months to voice their opinions about plans for the future of Jersey.  The public consultation for Jersey's draft Island Plan had been due to end on 18 December but the deadline has now been put back to the end of March.  According to Minister for Planning and Environment, Senator Freddie Cohen, the extension was granted to allow as many people as possible to comment.  The draft is available in Parish Halls, the Planning Department and online. Initial consultations about plans for the future of Jersey last year revealed public support for the development of urban areas and the preservation of the island's green spaces.

N.B. You are free to comment but please note that the plans are set in stone anyway.

I will be commenting and informing them of their useless rambling prattle which trys to justify their position and commercial self interests, I would suggest getting rid of the army of civil servants involved in this as they have done b all to justify themselves in the last couple of decades.

I guess the delay is because Freddie is off to SA for xmas as usual, I wish he would stay there and end his term now instead of prolonging the agony with his lack lustre political non achievements.

Thats an interesting comment because 6 years for some senators in the states is far too long now.  In fact staying at any work place for 6 years nowadays is an achievement all on its own but yes, it should be cut down.

My comments on the initial plan consultation were all dismissed with the comment the "Minister notes this", then I received a number of e mails regarding a public meeting that I was unable to attend due to having to work, instead I submitted some written comments these were dismissed because there was a deadline for comments that I had missed.

Following this there was a consultation for a Biological recording centre, I have just received a report on this with 10 department members listed as coordinators, facilitators, and authors, now if you calculate the average pay of these people as a conservative 30K a year, that works out 300,000 pa. This is of course is just the tip of the iceberg with all the costs that these staff incur with office, car, travel expenses etc, then their superiors - directors, heads, receptionist, the list goes on. I would not begrudge this if they were actually contributing to maintaining or improving the environment, but I see very little evidence of this.
This consultation also was loaded and manipulated, the motive I guess to justify the existence of a top heavy department. In this time of financial constraints why does no one question how much is being spent to achieve next to nothing.

Nepotism springs to mind here.  I wonder how  many sons and daughters get a job in the Civil Service after a nice sojourn at Uni getting the right quallies.

Planning became worse when we had to pay for the privilege too.  It was supposed to speed things up.  I don't know what that department did in the days when you did not have to pay.

No matter where you look you see noses in the tough eh?
