In the week that 67 job cuts are announced costing as much as £6 million in compensation, the aggressively left wing deputy Geoff Southern wants to become a Senator.
Tonight he got a slot on Channel TV, telling anyone that tuned in that he got so angry at job cuts and the small people getting shafted. Yep it's certainly election time.
It’s a coup without a doubt, playing the story of the moment, more people see his face. Very clever all's fair in love war and now politics.
He is an interesting DEPUTY and works hard, the states would have an easier time without him but in my opinion the fact that the majority of States workers deserve far more money he says time and time again. They deserve better working conditions he tells us time and ……………you get the idea, scares the hell out of me, a deputy fine, but keep the man chained.
While he of course is entitled to his opinion, maybe if he worked in a variety of private sector jobs ( as all States members should ) he may come to understand the reality of hard work equals better pay and promotion. Not I have a right to a big pay cheque, which is his tough union old fashioned stance.
Lets not forget, it’s the private sector who finances the public sector not the other way around. The UK is now taking steps to undo the buy votes by employment, that the labour party instigated to help it stay in power.
This is not to say that people working in states departments do not work hard, of course they do.
Deputy Geoff southern would operate with Jerseys finances ( given the opportunity ) by making the public workforce short term rich, and then we would all be long term broke as the island would sink under the dept of his over generosity to the public sector.
His wife deserves a mention as Mrs Southern of the teaching union is busy organising the future strikes, family politics and unity at its very best. Lets also remember Mrs Southern, other states departments have accepted 2%, they are hoping for long term job prospects.
