Sean Power has lost my vote for critising the manner in which the media were informed of the location of human remains at Haut De La Garenne, did he really need to ask questions in the States last week,

Does he not realise that thanks to that fragment of bone being found and the following media frenzy many abused people have been encouraged to come forward and testify against paedophiles. 

I suspect he is electioneering the sad thing on that front is that he will probably get in again because the majority of people do not vote in Jersey and the few that are politically engaged ( ha ha )vote in  the same old cronies year on year - the 'establishment party' by voting en block against political reform  reform  ensure that their backsides are safe................and I do not expect any change in October.....people will not turn out in any great numbers because there is absolutely no point..............the 'establishment party' have it sewn up ....................even the thorn in their side Senator Syvret has had enough..................

So what have we to look forward to in the future ....................buildings of INTERNATIONAL acclaim,  An INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Financial Centre, an anthem ( how about Money Money Money.................a Dickensian prison, an underclass........ahh I could go on!

A Jersey deputy is trying to find out the police's overtime bill for their investigation into alleged child abuse at Haut de la Garenne.

Deputy Sean Power claims the cost of putting up officers in two hotels is costing £25,000 a week.

Deputy Power also wants to know how much cash has been put aside to cover possible costs in 2009 and 2010.

They spend a ruddy fortune already.

Deputy Sean Power feels Lenny Harper's press briefings should have been more evidence based and vehemently rejected the notion he'd suggested a cover up would have been acceptable.

Deputy Power told Channel Online: "Am I accusing Jersey Police of a cover up? No I asked a simple question which apparently the Deputy Chief of Police finds difficult to answer and as does the Home Affairs minister."

"My question was and is simple, how does he know that that piece of bone was the remains of a child? I think being a lay person and being a none police expert and having no specialised knowledge, in my mind I'd be curious as to whether the Deputy Chief of Police had had archeological expert opinion," he added".

I actually think it was Ben Shenton which was the first to bring up Lenny Harper's media statements, but at least others are starting to question it now.

A Jersey politician and leading critic of the Waterfront development has been accused of 'dodgy dealings'.

Last week revelations by Deputy Sean Power convinced members to put the multi million pound development of the Esplanade Quarter on hold.

This afternoon the tables were turned. The developers Harcourt revealed Deputy Power had approached them for a job back in 2005, before he was in the States. He wanted to be their political consultant. The developers said 'No'. Since then they say he's become their leading critic.

Harcourts have now written to the Bailiff. The developers are now briefing States members. Deputy Power says he wants to see the e-mail and hear from the developers before he'll comment publicly.

Deputy Shona Pitman is launching a vote of no confidence in Sir Philip Bailhache following what she says is insensitivity, a lack of judgement and public anger.

It follows not only the outcry following his speech on Liberation Day relating to the child abuse scandal, but also his defence of the decision not to remove a convicted paedophile from the Honorary Police.

Meanwhile the comptroller and auditor general has been tasked to investigate the whole affair.

I think Deputy Power has some explaining to do about this.

What was he doing trying to get in with Harcourt and with e-mails like that?  He looks worse than the people he seems to be accusing.

I am answering the queries to those that have asked me to comment. I did not realise they were there. 

1: HDLG.  I believe that some awful things have happened there and that if the SOJP are allowed to get on with their investigation, there will be prosecutions through the AG's office.  However, I think standing in front of the world's media and proclaiming that the partial remains of a child had been found when they had not damaged the integrity of our police force.

2. I have never asked for a position within Harcourt and I did know one of the directors before I was a States Member. However, that person is now suing Harcourt in the Dublin courts and it would be wrong of me to comment any further.  However, the truth will prevail in the end and I just hope Treasury do their due diligence properly and ask both parties for the pleadings, something they have not yet done.

3.  West-Park.  I think the position of JHT and the purchase of these amphibious boats was a mistake. These new ones are not reliable and are costing a fortune in maintenance. The farce is that the three DUKW's built by Hank Goed are sitting in St. Saviour doing nothing. They were reliable as were the operators.  JHT should have acquired them for 20% of the cost of these two new ones and one or two of the staff of Puddleducks would have come as pat of the deal.

Absolutely right Sean.  Lenny Harper should never have released such details to the national media before being certain about a dead body.

I only wish he had had the courage to admit after that he made an error but he couldn't because he wanted to save face, so that he can get on with his £1,000,000 Book deal when its all over.

Not sure if you looked at some of the other questions. They were, do you support the child abuse victims and if so what have you actually done to support them?

Why after making a speech in the states saying the phonecalls you had recieved from your parishioners was not in support of the council of ministers, did you vote in support of the council of ministers?

Of course I support the victims and I am in touch with one. However, he never made a complaint and will not. He believes the offender is dead.

If you are referring to GST, I have voted 5 times against this awful tax.  Now that 28 of my colleagues voted to bring it in last November, I am firmly of the view that my colleagues are not disciplined enough to hold it at 3%. Already the clamour for exemptions on food, children's clothes, school uniforms, books, fresh food has started.  If we go for a VAT monster type model with large numbers of civil servants dealing with exemptions, then inexorably, the rate will have to go up.  And it will because of this clamour.  That is why I am of the view that GST will never stay a simple tax

Not sure who's questions you were answering there. But mine were what are you actively doing to support the victims of child abuse? and why did you vote, what appears to be against your parishioners, when you voted against the no confidence vote in our council of ministers?

I would not vote for you in a month of Sundays.  I don't like you or what you stand for. You are by no means alone on my list of polititians I would rather not have in power so don't take that personally.

You may well say "fair enough, that is democracy".  Therein lies the rub.

However, I do not live in your area and therefore cannot use my vote to influence your political life.  You, on the other hand, do not live in my area but can use your vote to influence my life.

Is that fair?

Been there, done that as you know. 

Suffice to say for now that it my democratic right to support whoever I choose.  It is also my right to keep my reasons for doing so to myself (although you already know them)
