Not often you are right Chevalier , but you are wrong again.
Private companies like nothing better than to find something which needs to be done outside of the remit they have been given , because.... they can then apply for a variation order and would be paid extra for the additional work required. Since I was at one time a financial director of a building company I can confirm that this happens all the time and that it is extremely lucrative for the companies involved .Now before you start to say that proves its cheaper to have it done by SOJ men , it does no such thing, extras would need to be done no matter who had to do them , like stabilising a wall ,which would otherwise fall on the heads of the contractors or hundreds of other variations ,like digging a trench and discovering a stream , or an electric cable, mains or telephony lines. All very interesting stuff!

Also private company will cut wages to bear minimum meaning less tax coming in, more SS money to give out and less employed. All core services need to be held by the States and their workers because i have seen what happens otherwise.

States workers = 100% wage from tax. Paying tax is from the tax anyway if you get my meaning so an overall decrease in tax through paying their wages.
Private companies = 1 or more jobs paid by tax so over a lifetime of a worker will be around 2% wage from tax the rest from private jobs, therefore increase in tax.

Even if the private company pays half the wages, the tax take will effectively be much more than a ANY states worker will ever put back into the tax system.

Lets make it simple for you.
We have £20 in our tax system. We pay £10 to employ a states worker and £2 social. The employee then pays £2 tax. end of year we have £10 in our tax system and £2 in social
Again, we have £20 in our tax system. a private company pays its workers £5 and £1 Social and he pays £1 tax. End of year we have £21 in our tax system and £1 in social

Thats nearly a 50% saving already.

Lets not forget that the private company is also paying rates on its property, paying tax as a company into the tax system and paying employee/employer social security that doesn't come from out existing tax take.

Quite right Dawg, and your simple illustration does not take into account the tax that needs to be spent on land to house the depts, the human resource requirement, the consultation papers and the psychoanalyst for when they hurt their little finger.

I amreally starting to like Sean Power !
Tonights JEP outlines the fact that he believes that many people in Social Housing could actually afford to pay more than they currently do ,since they do in fact receive rather more in wages than they have previously declared! Admittedly there will always be those who are needy and no fault of theirs' but ........We all know and this is not just gossip , hundreds of people living in Social Housing , who do in fact own properties abroad, which in the fullness of time , they will move to... .perhaps. This includes Jersey people with homes in France or Spain , who have used the system to live cheaply here whilst building homes in other Countries.
Whilst I admire their entrepreneurial spirit ,I do not see why I should subsidise the bastards!
To me it appears that there is an entire sub culture operating in Jersey below the radar , where families are housed cheaply , spend extravagantly in Europe, and are first with the begging bowl and waving of shrouds  when there is talk of increases to GST.
Abolish all tax apart from GST with means testing to prove asset ownership and if anyone fails to declare their 2 or third home in France or wherever it might be ,possibly America (I realise whilst writing this that I dare not say Madeira in case it sounds racist ). Too many freeloaders on our backs , too many civil servants , and way too many politicians with a snout in the trough .
Is there any remote chance we might have our Island back from this freeloading ,parasitical, shower of shite ?
Why is it that responsibility for all tax is aimed at the middle classes and not either the rich (11k,s can just do one as far as I am concerned) or the "poor" by which I mean those who take more out of the system than I can afford to inject , whilst living a better life style than I could dream of.
It must be great to take your wages home , to your States rent  subsidised house, free of ITIS, with your assisted electricity bills and free accomodation for your several children who have enjoyed free schooling and medical treatment , and look forward to your retirement in a foreign country in the house paid for by me and just hang about waiting for your pension , paid for by me , and laugh at those suckers who pay tax , Social Security at the top end , pay for Education and Private Medical care ................I really do not know what UNITE are on about , this is the promised land for the great , non tax paying , Social Security funded ,free loaders of Jersey !

i wish i owned a home elsewhere , but as a full rent paying states tenant who is paying itis and social security, cannot afford it, also i would love to buy the home i am in ,but may just get a mortgage , but we could not afford food and ,electricity, fuel to get to work , insure the car and rates ect.
sparty is correct ,there is people in need and and the honest ones and the piss takers.
i do sometimes wonder why i get out of bed  to go to work to pay my rent and taxes instead of opening a tin of beer or pour a shot of vodka , and light a fat spliff .
the divide between states and private rental(no kids no pets in some cases), is vast.
i do not have any form of pension to fall back on  in the future(i may die before)
i also expect  gst to rise , without a doubt and dislike it on my food,  i can do without a new car and a flat screen telly, but sadly food is a must, i am not the best dessed either( quite like the disheveld look)
(sans coulottes to qote others)
those who have more spare cash, below any radar are more than likely cash in hand, in some form.
the 11 ks would not up sticks at a tax hike, any why we judge a person by the fatness of their wallet is beyond me.

just one more thing , housing need to keep all of rent collected, and not give any more to the general treasury of which i belive they only get to keep 1 third and rest goes into the pot, which  i see a tax as it is not used for housing directly, so it must suit the treasury to have as we are a source of extra income each week 52 weeks a year.

Good point man in the street , but then what would they do with the trillions they collect on taxing cigarettes ? I think they should build better facilities for smokers in the streets with that money, all petrol tax should only be spent on roads , and all monies received from the evil alcohol should go directly to the Hospital apart from maybe 5% which should be set aside to repatriate Muppets like rosie geller who appear not to have a clue as to what do next to get some publicity.Mind you , she is only one of several thousand total wastes of space which must include at least 40 states members.
Perhaps we should have a tax on experts spouting bollix in the JEP? £1000/word would be a good start , perhaps they would then shut up?

Hum..... Sean Power - very ambitious and I have a sneaky suspicion that he might have been somehow instrumental in bringing ole Terry down.
Terry said he had been "stitched up like a kipper" and I believe he is right. It might have been the old story of a younger deputy wanting the top job and bad mouthing the "old" man whilst at the same time making it clear he could do much better and shake things up if elected. What Terry did was deliberatey leaked out to bring him down. This sort of thing happens all the time in the island and is routinely covered up
Sean has boxed well in the past and used the Emeraude versus Condor story as a vehicle to get noticed by the public. He has definately kissed the Blarney stone and is a likely chap if not rogue.  He wants to make as much noise as possible giving him the chance to go for Senator in next year's elections. A clever man to be watched...

funny you should say that about terry moot, as we areshort of a car park when the esplande goes, and terry wanted to keep anne court for housing , social housing that is, i did cross my mind too that terry had been stiched up , after all i did see him as one of the few who did care about the localy born, and did help out a lot of ordinary folk.
it is my guess that social housing will be in even greater demand , when more fresh immigrant(cheap)labour arrives to take more jobs and qualifies under the 5 year rule  for all manner of benifits ect.
not least the rising home prices  that make homes for localy born totaly unaffordable
and people loose their homes , when or if interest rates rise , as many must be stetched to near busting point the home is on the knock with the furniture in it and the car each is also on the drip.
i am glad to say i have no debt other than this weeks rent and the usual bill or two, mind you i live within my means .
our unchecked immigration could collapse us in the end, people arrive at 7.30 am onwards in town to get a parking space for the daily grind , so when do we start arriving at seven, schools will possibly open at 8am(start) or earlier or will the kids walk to the bus station for the school bus at seven  .

Yes, he certainly reviews postings and just because he doesn't post directly, does not mean he may not email anyone directly if it is a matter of importance - which is probably better than pushing everything out in public.

I think that up in the control tower of SOJ HQ Little Tel has his sticky hands on the freak control stick, Sly Pip is watching the gaydar and still nobody is counting the beans! Freddy's been away so often he needs a bit of re-training.
Meanwhile our Housing ace is planning a new war of atrittion (and I don't mean the Cheltenham gold cup either  ;)) http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/racing/war-of-attrition-ready-for-grand-sendoff-1875268.html.
Being as silent as the grave only means one of two things with people: If its a guy, he's coming up with a cunning plan to save the day, if it's a woman, we're in deep sh!t!
C'mon Sean! Let's hear your plan to topple our miserable government and get the States on an even Keel?
Wasn't Guy Fawkes from Kerry?

A terrible slight against Catholicism. I f only Guy had got it right we would be enjoying Royal patronage , where the little people would have carried on ,doing whatever it is the little people do and woe betide anyone who disagreed!
I think the problems we have today ,have stemmed from a lack of leadership from the Crown. Far too many people poking into far too many pies without a care for their heritage . I think we should bring back the Queen , failing which , elect Ozouf as our titular head.

I think that the celebration of Bonfire night in Jersey (and Engand for that matter) has long ceased to be a ritual about drumming up anti-Catholic hate, and has really become an excuse for a good fire festival with lots of fireworks, and a cracking good bonfire. There probably was a Celtic fire festival around that time anyway (Samhain) and the opportunity of having a celebration like that would have probably been accepted gladly whatever the historical reason.
