HOUSING

Jersey's Housing Minister is being asked to review certain systems in his department.

It's after a single-mum claimed mistakes have left her in debt.

Elizabeth Gallichan contacted Jersey's Complaints Board after getting a two-thousand pound bill for back-dated rent.

She went back to work in February and contacted Housing several times asking it to adjust her rebate.

The Complaints Board says Mrs. Gallichan's attempts to pay the correct rent weren't acted on by staff.

It's wants Senator Terry Le Main to review systems for making Housing staff clearly aware of policy.

Mrs. Gallichan's debt won't be cancelled but the Board's asked Senator Le Main to consider giving her more time to pay.

So it does make me laugh with Elizabeth's situation and mine i do think these states dept's make the rules up as they go along!

If I remember correctly housing require you to pay 50% of your income before any other expenses if your in rent arrears.
